Uber Drivers Are Employees, CA Regulator Rules

In a ruling that could significantly impact Uber’s business, a California labor regulator has ruled that its drivers are employees, rather than contractors. That change would force Uber to provide drivers with unemployment and other benefits. Drivers say they are employees because they are screened, trained, and adhere to a disciplinary system. Uber argues that because they can choose when to work, they are appropriately considered contractors. Uber has filed an appeal.
