Hastert Hires High Profile Lawyer In Cover-Up Scandal

Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert has hired Thomas Green of Sidley Austin to represent him. He faces accusations of paying an individual to keep quiet about sexual misconduct. Hastert, who retired from Congress in 2007 and became a lobbyist, allegedly structured bank transactions to avoid suspicion in order to pay $3.5 million in hush money. Green has experience with high-profile scandals. He has represented members of Congress and other public officials in dealings related to Watergate, the Whitewater investigation and the Iran-Contra affair.
