Judge: Cell Phones a Privilege, Not a Right

In a case where a distracted driver on her cell phone hit and killed a bicyclist, a Michigan judge has issued a two-year ban on the driver’s right to use a mobile phone. “I don’t think she has a right to have a cell phone,” Judge Stewart McDonald said in his ruling. “I think it’s a privilege.” The cell ban was on top of two years of probation and six months in jail.
