20 Years Later, Attorney Will Get Paid

A federal appeals court this week ruled that the government must pay Maine lawyer Francis Jackson for representing a U.S. military veteran, a case he took on nearly 20 years ago. Jackson’s veteran client died in 2008, a year before the $136,652 disability award began to pay out. It may take more than a year for him to receive his 20-percent contingent attorney fee, but Jackson told the National Law Journal he was not in it for the money: “I like the work, and frankly I’m stubborn.”
