Judge Dismisses 100+ Jurors For Lack Of Diversity

An Iowa judge dismissed the entire 112-person jury pool in a case charging a black man with murder, after only one individual identified as non-white. “[T]he system is broken in Webster County and this court needs to fix it for [my client]’s rights to be upheld,” said attorney Charles Kneville, who is representing the defendant. Kneville added that the chance of conviction is cut by 10 percent if even one juror is black. The trial had already seen a change of venue due to lack of diversity in a previous county.
