BP Wins Right To Appeal Some Spill Damage Awards

A federal appeals court has ruled that BP may appeal some of the damage claims awarded to people and businesses following the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the largest in U.S. history. According to regulatory filings, BP expected to have to pay $7.8 billion under the terms of a 2012 settlement, but as of April it had to boost the estimate to $10.3 billion. About $5.1 billion has been paid out so far.
