Legal Operations Managers Becoming Pivotal In-House Players

The relatively new position of law department operations manager is quickly becoming indispensable, BloombergBNA reports. At least one-third of general counsel at Fortune 500 countries have enlisted an operations manager, ACC estimates. “We feel we’re at the tipping point,” Amar Sawal of the Association of Corporate Counsel said of the position. “I think eventually virtually all departments will have them.” The role is specific to each company, but they typically are tasked with managing outside vendors and contracts, implementing new technology, and finding ways to contain costs for in-house legal teams, as well as running diversity and pro-bono programs and implementing e-billing systems.
