Ellen Pao And The New Sex Discrimination

The lawsuit Ellen Pao filed against her former employer, venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, illustrates the new, more subtle forms of gender discrimination women face in the workplace, writes Claire Cain Miller in the New York Times. An example may be in the contradictory performance evaluations Pao received, which, as characterized in an earlier Times article, encouraged her to “speak up – but don’t talk too much. Light up the room – but don’t overshadow others. Be confident and critical – but not cocky or negative.”
