Lawmakers Pressure Verizon To Offer Opt Out Of Tracking

Verizon has ceded to pressure from lawmakers and privacy advocates, saying it will now allow customers to opt out of trackers the company has used to monitor mobile traffic. The trackers, known as UIDHs, tracked customer online activities to send them targeted ads. And though Verizon let customers opt out of some trackers used by its ad program, the so-called UIDHs had no such option. Four Democratic Senators voiced privacy concerns related to them, and Verizon last week said it would soon offer customers the chance to opt out.
