The Face Of International Litigation

A post from Merrill Brink, a company that provides language translation services for international business, looks at some general trends in international litigation and what companies can do to prepare for them. The information is based on a survey undertaken last year by Hogan Lovells. The firm surveyed senior attorneys from large international companies in 18 industries about their experience and expectations regarding cross-border disputes. Among the findings: The most common area for disputes was contracts, with 44 percent of respondents reporting they had managed some kind of commercial contract dispute in the previous two years. The next most prevalent was intellectual property, at 18 percent. Down the list at third were competition and antitrust disputes, with only 10 percent reporting involvement, but these disputes were especially likely to arise in Europe and the UK. The most challenging aspect of cross-border disputes was, not surprisingly, finding local counsel.
