Facebook To Face User Privacy Lawsuit

A California judge refused to dismiss a class action lawsuit filed by two Facebook users who claim the social media giant violated userprivacy by scanning messages to cull advertising information. The lawsuit, filed in 2013, claims that until it stopped the practice in 2012 Facebook was scanning messages sent via the site, in violation of state and federal privacy laws, for information that would help target advertisers. The judge said the disclosure agreement Facebook put in place was not specific enough to establish that users consented to the company’s behavior.
