Former CEO Indicted in Coal Mine Explosion

The former CEO of Massey Energy Co., Donald Blankenship, has been indicted on charges he violated federal safety laws leading up to a 2010 coal mine blast that killed 29 workers in West Virginia. The indictment claims Blankenship ignored hundreds of safety law violations, and charges the former exec with four criminal counts, including conspiring to violate mine safety standards and conspiring to impede mine safety officials, as well as making false statements to the SECand securities fraud. Blankenship could face up to 31 years in prison.
