Firms “In-Sourcing” More Legal Work In 2014

Larger companies are keeping more legal work in-house, rather than outsourcing to law firms, according to an analysis by BTI Consulting Group Inc. This year, about 58 percent of larger companies said they planned to send more legal work in-house, as opposed to the 50 percent who said the same in 2013. The shift has led to the rerouting of about $1.1 billion that would have been spent on law firms. In another survey, which queried1,200 chief legal officers, about 63 percent said they are in-sourcing legal work that once would have gone to outside firms.
