The concept of a separation agreement is simple, writes Burns & Levinson attorney Renee Inomata, but there are some devilish details. In this first of two installments, the writer covers the first five of “the most overlooked” in this increasingly common scenario. Among them are release language, and exceptions to the release. “Let’s face it, release language is usually copied from one agreement to the next,” she writes. “With recent changes in employment laws, it’s best to carefully review the release language to make sure that what a company is expecting to be released actually is released, and nothing that is not permitted to be released by law is released.”
