It’s easy to gravitate to others in your profession, especially when the profession is somewhat beleaguered and prone to speak its own special language. Attorney Jared D. Correia with the Massachusetts Law Office Management Assistance Program makes the case that for lawyers this is a tendency worth fighting. Not that you should stop networking with other lawyers, but equally if not more important is networking with other professionals, notably those who might qualify as potential clients. It might make more sense for a real estate lawyer, for example, to office among real estate agents and mortgage brokers than among other real estate lawyers. That presupposes having an identifiable specialty – also a good idea, Correia says.
