Justice Ginsburg: Men On SCOTUS Have ‘Blind Spot’ On Women’s Issues

Questioned on the Supreme Court’s recent Hobby Lobby ruling, concerning corporations’ religious rights to deny contraception coverage, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said the male justices who voted in the majority did not fully understand the ramifications of their decision, and added that those male justices may have a “blind spot” about women’s issues. The ruling found that closely-held companies like Hobby Lobby may be given a religious exemption from offering insurance coverage for some kinds of contraception. Ginsburg wrote a scathing 35-page dissent to the ruling. “But justices continue to think and can change,” Ginsburg told Yahoo News. “They have wives. They have daughters. … “I am ever hopeful that if the court has a blind spot today, its eyes will be open tomorrow.” She also dismissed retirement rumors, saying she is “likely to remain for a while.”
