Among other examples, LeBron James’ high-profile move from Cleveland to Miami, then back again, holds some useful lessons for managing partners looking at the year-round free agency season for lawyers.. Lateral hiring, Jillson says, has been shown to have questionable benefits, and he suggests firms can increase their chances of successful recruitment if they consider the pros and cons of long-term contracts and create a hiring strategy as though they, like NBA teams, face a salary cap.
