Former Utah AGs Arrested On Bribery Charges

Two former attorneys general for the state of Utah were arrested this week, and between them they now face 23 felony and misdemeanor charges. John Swallow and Mark Shurtleff were charged with a pattern of unlawful activity, including bribing a public official, witness tampering, and destroying evidence. Both officials denied any wrongdoing. Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said, “The entire situation, regardless of how the legal process plays out, is a black eye for our state,” adding, “This serves as a reminder that nobody is above the law and, if anything, public servants must be held to a higher standard.”
