What Legacy Will This Supreme Court Session Leave?

How has the Supreme Court changed America this term? Politico got responses from more than a dozen legal experts, who variously believe the Court’s 2013-2014 session either saved or destroyed personal privacy, championed religious freedom or submarined employee rights, destroyed the environment or took a step toward preserving it. Law professors from Harvard, NYU and Berkeley, a Supreme Court Justice biographer, a Slate legal writer and others give brief overviews of what decisions stand out. Many agree that the Court’s rulings were purposefully kept narrow, and will not exert the sweeping change that many pressed for, or feared, although they may have laid the groundwork for more broad-scale change in the future.
