Lawyers, Advisors Want $18 Million For Law Firm Bankruptcy Work

Marc Dreier is doing 20 years for running a Ponzi scheme, and last week, nearly six years after his law firm, Dreier LLP, was liquidated, nearly a dozen law firms, consultants and other professionals requested about $18 million for work on the bankruptcy. Attorney Sheila Gowan, who has collected $79 million since December 2009 to repay Dreier’s debts, requested $1.2 million in fees and expense reimbursements. Her former firm and lead counsel in the bankruptcy case, Diamond McCarthy LLP, requested $11.3 million. Dreier used his law firm to funnel money tied to his $700 million Ponzi scheme. A bankruptcy judge will rule on the fee requests at a June 16 hearing.
