FDA To Host Workshop On 3-D Printing Of Medical Devices

The FDA has begun to receive submissions for 3-D printed medical devices and components, in some cases for products matched to specific patients. In October, the FDA will hold a public hearing, geared to both manufacturers and academia, to discuss issues raised by 3-D printing, also known as additive manufacturing. Among the topics to be considered is how to development an evaluation process for submissions. The program is titled “Additive Manufacturing of Medical Devices: An Interactive Discussion on the Technical Considerations of 3-D Printing.”
