Military Think Tank Warns Of Security Risk From Climate Change

A report from the Center for Naval Analyses Military Advisory Board warns that a host of new security threats will materialize as the result of climate change, among them potentially inflammatory local and regional conflicts over food and water, and instability following the huge refugee migrations that can be expected as coastal areas become uninhabitable. Other somewhat less apocalyptic-sounding predictions include the flooding out of major coastal naval facilities like those in Norfolk, VA. Climate change holdout James M. Inhofe of Oklahoma, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, dismissed the report as a publicity ploy by retired military officers and a diversion from more pressing threats, like nuclear proliferation.
The Center for Naval Analyses Military Advisory Board sees new and dangerous security issues looming as the direct and indirect result of climate change.
