Samsung To Appeal $119M Patent Ruling In Apple Case

Though its latest patent battle with Apple ended with Samsung on the hook for a fraction of what Apple asked for, the company has said it will appeal the ruling in hopes of having damages dropped entirely. The mobile phone patent battle between the two tech giants ended with a verdict that found infringement by both companies, but requiring Samsung to pay Apple $119 million, just six percent of the $2 billion the company sought when it claimed Samsung violated five of its patents. But a lawyer for Samsung said the finding is not based on evidence. The $119 million settlement is the fourth-largest jury award in a patent case this year, according to Bloomberg. In another patent trial between the two companies, a jury found that Samsung owed Apple $1 billion.
