White House Close to Naming New Counsel

The New York Times reported that a finalist has been identified to replace White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, who announced in September that she will step down in mid-May. But, per the report, the finalist will not be named until after a background check is completed. Ruemmler, Obama’s longest-serving counsel, made the decision to step aside after putting off three previous departures at President Obama’s request.
