Lawyer Suspended For Faking Illness to Avoid Oral Argument

A lawyer who admitted he faked illness to avoid a court date that he felt unprepared for has been suspended for 60 days. He was set to present oral arguments before the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, but then told the court clerk he had vomited and would not be able to make it to court. The court held arguments without him, and his client lost the appeal. The Illinois Supreme Court issued the suspension, fined him $1,000 and ordered him to pay $5,000 restitution.
