Gender Diversity In Silicon Valley

January 23, 2014

A new study compares gender diversity at the largest Silicon Valley companies with the largest U.S. companies in all sectors, with some eye-opening results. Specifically, the study looked at board and C-suite composition at the Silicon Valley 150 compared to the S&P 100. Silicon Valley looked retrograde by some measures – percentage of women on the board, for example – but even in the more egalitarian S&P 100, women made up only 20 percent of board members. Looking at the general counsel position, the study found almost one-quarter of general counsel in the SV 150 are women, with the number in the S&P 100 slightly lower, at 21.1 percent. This post includes a link to the entire study, which was conducted by Fenwick & West.
