New Mexico Supreme Court Rules Gay Marriage Legal

With a ruling by the state’s Supreme Court, New Mexico joins 16 states and the District of Columbia in legalizing gay marriage. The court ruled it unconstitutional to deny a marriage license to gay and lesbian couples. This comes after a county clerk in southern New Mexico independently decided to allow the unions, and eight of the state’s 33 counties started issuing marriage licenses.
