Programs are generating music, painting and “news,” and it’s only a matter of time before there are programs that will generate novels. “Even great novels,” says one programmer, but another settles for the term “viable” and doubts even that is coming in the foreseeable future. Whenever it happens and whatever it proves to be, it’s likely to raise some knotty copyright questions.
