Samsung Damages Due Apple For Infringement Balloons To $900M

In a second patent infringement trial held specifically to determine damages, a jury tacked on $290 million to what Samsung owes Apple for infringing five of the company’s patents, bringing the total damages to $900 million. The first trial, held last year, found that many older versions of Samsung phones like the Galaxy S 4G were in violation of five Apple patents. This year’s acrimonious retrial included accusations that an Apple attorney made racist statements devaluing firms that base their manufacturing out of Asia. Another trial, regarding the same patents in newer phones like the iPhone 5 and Galaxy 4, is scheduled for March 2014.
