NLRB, New GC, Upholds Some Worker Claims vs Walmart

Complaints that Wal-Mart, in more than a dozen states, threatened, disciplined, and ultimately fired employees who were involved in a company protest were found to have merit by the new National Labor Relations Board General Counsel, Richard Griffin. Other charges – that Wal-Mart violated employees’ rights by asking large groups of non-employee protestors to leave the premises, and that stores in two states unlawfully changed work schedules to punish participating employees – were struck down. The decision is one of the NLRB’s first since Griffin was sworn in on Nov. 4, after a contentious nominee process, first as President Obama’s choice to serve on the Board and then as its GC.
