New Prime Target For Washington Lobbyists: The EU

Recognizing the EU’s economic power and the fact that issues like fracking and privacy are if anything even more contentious in Europe than they are in the U.S., lobbying groups out of some major Washington law firms have set up shop in Brussels. EU rules, unlike those in the U.S., keep campaign money largely out of the system, but beyond that it’s practically carte blanche. Lobbying firms aren’t required to disclose clients or whom they contact on clients’ behalf, and government officials are allowed to work as lobbyists as soon as they leave office.
