Airline Union To File Brief In Merger Lawsuit

The Transport Workers Union, representing ground workers for American Airlines, will be allowed to file a brief in a case where the merger of American and U.S. Airways is being challenged by the Department of Justice. The union – which in January reached a deal with the airlines for wage increases contingent on the merger – originally hoped to become an intervenor in the case but DOJ and the airline companies objected, at least partially because the union may slow the case down. Trial is set to begin in the D.C. District Court on Nov. 25.
