Mary Jo White Blasts Dodd-Frank Disclosure Requirements

The chair of the SEC made clear that she is not in favor of disclosure requirements that Congress mandated in the Dodd-Frank legislation, including the requirement that manufacturers detail their use of conflict minerals and that mining companies disclose information about their safety practices. These are “compelling objectives, which, as a citizen, I wholeheartedly share,” White said. But she maintains that as disclosure requirements, they are overly prescriptive and go beyond the proper SEC function of mandating adequate information for the purpose of investment decisions.
