Nannies Get Overtime Pay Under New CA Law

California employers will have to pay nannies and other domestic workers time-and-a-half overtime when they work more than nine hours per day, or more than 45 hours per week, under a new law. The law, combined with another recent move to increase minimum wage in the state to $10 by 2016, are victories for lower-wage workers in the nation’s most populous state. The overtime pay rule goes into effect Jan. 1, but will sunset in 2017 if not renewed by the legislature.
