Hallmark’s Christmas Campaign In Court Over Copyright

With the holiday season around the corner, Hallmark’s plan to roll out its “North Pole City” Christmas campaign hit a roadblock when an Oklahoma-based company with the same name filed suit for trademark infringement. The smaller North Pole City company wants Hallmark to stop production of the line, stop using the name, give up products already made – including books, stationery, greeting cards, wrapping paper, cookie decorating tools, serving plates and more – and provide compensation for lost profits. Hallmark has not formally responded to the lawsuit, but has shown little desire to settle, claiming it informed North Pole City of its intent to use the name sometime last year.
