Spouses Of Some UPS Employees To Lose Health Coverage

The company will quit offering healthcare coverage to spouses who have access to coverage at their own workplace. A Towers Watson survey found that four percent of large employers had a similar policy, and an additional eight percent were planning it for next year. UPS says the Affordable Care Act was a big factor in its decision, but some analysts say the move is consistent with long-standing trends. The company says the move will save it about $60 million a year. At UPS, the new policy applies only to non-union workers.
