The Present and Future of Digital Copyright

A task force convened by the U.S. Department of Commerce has released “the most thorough and comprehensive analysis of digital copyright policy issued by any administration since 1995.” It looks at the major issues, from “remixes” to the first-sale doctrine, and appropriate calibration of damages when copyright violations occur. This post is an introduction and synopsis, written by the USPTO’s Chief Policy Officer. The USPTO provided input on the project and will be soliciting public comment and convening roundtables to follow up on the issues raised. This post includes a link to the document itself, which runs to more than 100 pages.
