Rolls Royce, Maker Of Jet Engines, Working On A Sail Freighter

With its stock up 39 percent in the last year, Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc, in partnership with B9 Shipping of Larne, Northern Ireland, is developing an ocean-going freighter. It will be longer than a football field and powered by a 180-foot sail, augmented with bio-methane burning engines. Currently most of the word’s cargo fleet is powered by one of the cheapest and dirtiest usable fuels produced, known as bunker fuel, and the project’s developers, betting the use of bunker fuel will become increasingly restricted, predict the added development costs of the sail ship will be paid back in three years.
