90-Year-Old Judge Fights Accusations She Napped Mid-Trial

A nonagenarian Connecticut District Court judge has submitted personal notes she took during a conspiracy trial as proof that she was not, as some complained, asleep at the bench. “I take copious notes during the testimony of each witness, and I would like to place into the record my personal notes of what happened that afternoon to reflect that I was not asleep,” Judge Ellen Bree Burns said. “Indeed, I was listening very carefully to what was going on and making notes of them.” Burns did admit, though, that she was a bit bored.
