75-Year-Old Awaits Bar Exam Results

Jim Edwards of Murfreesboro, Tenn., graduated from the Nashville School of Law this spring, and – if he passes the bar exam – already has a job lined up. Edwards is 75 years old. He had an insurance sales career, and built and sold two major companies. He enrolled at a community college at the age of 68, in hopes of practicing public-interest law. “The reason I did that is I had seen, over the years, a lot of individuals that I thought had pretty good cases but couldn’t afford a lawyer,” Edwards said. “And I thought that if God grants me a few more years on this Earth, I can get a law degree and help those people and I don’t have to make a living doing it.”
