$150K For A Law Degree They Can’t Use

The editorial board of the New York Times has criticized for-profit law schools in general and Florida Coastal School of Law in particular for admitting unqualified students, charging them so much for tuition that they end up more than $150,000 in debt, and sending them out to take bar exams they can’t pass. In 2013, the median LSAT score of students admitted to Florida Coastal School of Law was in the bottom quarter of all test-takers nationwide. “Most of Florida Coastal’s students are leaving law school with a degree they can’t use, bought with a debt they can’t repay,” writes the Times, which blames the 2006 federal Direct PLUS Loan program at least partially for the problem.
