Positive Drugs Tests On The Rise

Law firm Jackson Lewis reports on a recent study of workplace drug testing that finds the rate of positives has increased for the first time in ten years. Marijuana and amphetamine use is said to account for much of the surge. Not surprisingly, there were large increases in the percent of positive tests in Colorado and Washington, two states where recreational marijuana use is legal, but at the same time, nationally, positive rates for amphetamines were the highest ever recorded, and rates for methamphetamine in particular were at the highest level since 2007. Employers are advised to be prepared for the high rates and make sure they are familiar with the laws governing drug testing- marijuana testing in particular – in the states where they operate.
